GreyHounds Reach the Beach
Each Columbus Day weekend, a miraculous
transformation occurs in the small resort community of Dewey Beach,
Delaware. The tropical summer wear of the community’s typical visitors is
replaced with GreyHound t-shirts and sweatshirts. And around most every
corner, peering out of nearly every car and hotel window, and lining the
long, pristine beach are GreyHounds, GreyHounds, and more beautiful
GreyHounds.
About 3,000 of these
sleek and gentle dogs will fill every dog-friendly crevice in Dewey Beach
and the surrounding resort communities from October 11th through 13th,
bringing a major boost to the area’s economy. The annual phenomenon,
formally known as
GreyHounds Reach the Beach,
now attracts even
non-dog lovers who flock to the area to view the sea of hounds.
GreyHounds Reach the Beach is by far
the largest of many GreyHound "reunion" events held across the country each
year.
