Jennifer Beitchman jenn@mywhippet.com

I just read the great article in Newsday today. I hope this bring attention to the plight! I have always been a big advocate of rescued greyhounds. I have 3 whippets currently, but hope when we move into our house we can become (at least) foster care for rescued greys.

On June 9th I went to Bubbles & Barks to help with the washing of ten rescued greyhounds. This was my first time and it was a very special night. There were many dedicated people there that night and all of you deserve a special thank you, I felt honored to be part of such a great event. All the dogs were amazingly beautiful, the new owners already in love with their greyhounds. Ten lives were saved. Thank you, Theresa Adams-Wolf

We are seriously thinking of adopting a Greyhound as a housepet, and have read mostly all of your pages. I don't recall reading about the food they eat, and how much a day. Could you supply us with that information? I had seen these dogs before, and most recently at the Mattituck Strawberry Festival, where I was given information on them. I would appreciate your response. Thanking you in advance, I remain, Sincerely, Carole

To Carole who asked the question about what greyhounds eat....a good dry food that is usually purchased in a pet store. Eukanuba (sp?) lamb and rice is good. They eat twice a day, approx. 2 and 1/2 cups at each serving. More power to you if you can stick to this bland diet. Greyhounds might enjoy a little flavorful moistening in their food...broth, yogurt, V-8 vegetable juice, cooked veggies.

In early June, my husband and I were adopted by a fantastic greyhound from LIGHT. The LIGHT organization not only provided us with information before, during but afterwards also, as often as we needed!!! I highly recommend LIGHT to anyone interested in giving a loving home to these majestic dogs. Our Indy is the apple of our eyes and the whole process has been smooth sailing. MANY thanks to everyone at LIGHT who helped in any way big or small.

I appreciate all that you are doing to rescue these greyhounds. I am presently not looking for a dog but in a few years will and I will be getting a greyhound from your organization. I can think of no other dog that would benefit more than these greyhounds.

My Name is Christi Wilson. I am a third year law student in Manhattan. I have been considering getting a dog after I take the bar next year and so I started looking into the type of dog I wanted. I remembered hearing about the greyhounds when I was younger. I knew they were available for adoption but I thought I wanted a Weimaraner. I looked into that type of dog and am no longer sure that that type of dog would be suitable for me. I bought the book by Cynthia Branigan about adopting racing greyhounds. Having read thru the book I am not 100% certain that I want a greyhound but I would like to volunteer my time and be around some greyhounds. I think that would help me make a more informed decision. They sound like wonderful animals and I think that your organization is doing great work. Your website is very informative. Keep up the great work! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to volunteer my time. My e-mail address is guinello@hotmail.com

Sincerely, Christi Wilson

We have Indy about 6 weeks and he has made such a smooth adjustment that we are getting a companion for him. We are continually being stopped and asked about him and thanked for saving his life. It's a finge benefit we never expected. He loves going in the car to the pet store, for walks and anyplace where he can socialize. It has been a dream.

I would love to talk to you more about how things are going with Thomas especially since you have another dog already. How do they handle jealousy of each other? Hi! My name is Coleen and I volunteer for the NHSPCA in Stratham, NH and for REGAP (Retired Greyhounds as Pets) in Seabrook, New Hampshire. I believe that four men from your group are coming to the REGAP kennel on Monday, August 19, 2002. I will be there. I own 7 dogs, 7 rabbits, and 4 cats and live in New Hampshire. I am originally from New Jersey. Two of my dogs include a 2.5 year old Greyhound named Hawkeye and a 12 week old Greyhound puppy named Seamus. We adopted Seamus from Chris MakePeace, the woman in charge of REGAP adoptions.

My daughter and I saw many of the greyhounds at the LI Duck game on Sunday August 25, 2002. We fell in love with them and already know that we will eventually become future owners of a retired racing greyhound. My little one won't rest until I take the appropriate steps.

Ellen, What a great website, and a great job you are doing in adopting these wonderful dogs out to loving family's. Thank you so much for all your help when we had questions about Cocktail. She is a great girl and has adjusted well to our home. She loves running in the backyard and going for long walks. She also loves anyone who will come over to see her, and will look for that person on her next walk. These dogs are amazing animals, extreamly loving and very smart. See you at the next dogwash. -Cocktail's Parents (Michele & Michael Simon)

Baldwin, a member of the July 2002 class, would like to say thank you very much! He and halfpint are getting along just fine, and he's actually contemplating getting her a holiday rawhide :) Ellen, getting a male was exactly what we (and halfpint) needed. There has been no jealousy or trouble other than a pair of 2-year olds pushing each other's buttons at times. They love to chase each other and have even started sleeping against one and other and eating from both ends of the same rawhide! Laura and I would like to extend a Happy Holiday greeting to everyone at LIGHT. Baldwin has been a wonderful addition to our family and fits in perfectly!

Indy and Sasha just love the new website and music. Any new word on an updated lure coursing date or will it be postponed until the spring time? Happy Holidays! Watching Indy and Sasha's reaction to their first snowstorm was comical. Indy growled at the snowflakes all day long and wouldn't go out in it until we had to practically carry them out, knowing that they held their bladders long enough. Once outside, they had a ball. The two of them are like Frick-N-Frack. Throw McCoy in the mix and it's a four legged party.

I really enjoyed this web site. Very informative and pleasant. The only disturbing factor was seeing the dogs in those muzzles. When I rescued my HONEY, she wouldn't go into a crate and she would not look at that muzzle, so the crate was closed and put away and the muzzle hidden. All the pictures were lovely and easily seen. It is nice to see Julie Ferrara so now I know to whom I am writing. Thank you for this wonderful web. I will pass it along to my other Greyhound lovers and owners. There are no events listed, will they be forthcoming ? Helen V. Rogers - hvrog@aol.com
